We offer a PhD research degree conducted over 3 years full-time studyor 6 years part-time study (minimum). A core part of our PhD programme is the doctoral training programme which all first year PhD students undertake in semester one of their studies.

Our students undertake projects in a wide range of interdisciplinary areas, and we can co-supervise projects with other schools of the GSA - and sometimes partner with other institutions, such as The University of Glasgow, in doctoral research supervision.

Current Projects

We currently have students from: Egypt, China, Saudi Arabia, Namibia, Republic of Ireland, Germany, Spain and other parts of the UK. They are working in areas including:

Heritage visualisation;

Effectiveness of advertising within games

VR and Digital learning – graffiti, chemical manufacturing;

Medical visualisation;

Immersive Storytelling;

User experience design and autonomous driving.

Supervisors

A crucial element of your PhD experience will be to choose supervisors carefully. At The Glasgow School of Art, PhD students work with a Primary Supervisor (sometimes called a Lead or Principal Supervisor) and joint or co-supervisors.
